Lucy Pointycat (vocals, programming)
![]() |
Joined Psychophile in 1999 Biography: Before December 1998, Lucy Pointycat had never heard of Psychophile. But then she attended the band's comeback gig on New Year's Eve 1998/9 and was impressed. She got drunk with founding member Mat Hook after the show and offered her talents as a singer. With her came a handful of songs that she'd written for her previous band, Theta.... Songs which Mat and Lucy were able to develop beyond recognition.... Songs which formed the basis of Psychophile's new sound.... A sound with Lucy's distinctively powerful vocals at the fore. Previous Form: vocals and songs in Theta (1996) vocals in Verity Turnip (1995) vocals in Hidden Traits (1993) |
Smogo (guitars, programming, bass, additional vocals)
![]() |
Joined Psychophile in 2002 Biography: When Mat decided to retire from live performance early in 2002, Lucy asked Smogo to mime keyboards for Psychophile at their next gig. And so it was with some trepidation that, at the second Malediction Festival, he climbed on stage for the first time since his days as a thrash metal vocalist in the mid 1990s. But he enjoyed it so much that he decided to dust off his old guitar and start playing again. This was aided considerably when he was signed off work for five weeks for breaking his arm after falling off his platform heels. Previous Form: vocals in Body Hammer (1994) |
Mat Hook (founding member)
![]() |
Formed Psychophile in 1991 Biography: Having turned down an offer from one Thom Yorke to join his new band Radiohead, multi-talented multi-instrumentalist Mat Hook founded Psychophile in 1991. Soon afterwards, the demo tape Spiderstyle was circulating around the London and Exeter alternative scenes. A handful of gigs and numerous line-up changes later, Psychophile took a hiatus from 1995 until Mat, by now relocated in Brighton, decided to play a fateful solo show at the end of 1998.... Previous Form: guitar in Tortured By Roses (1993) bass in April May June (1992) keyboards and vocals in Skin Deep (1988) drums in Angelhead (1987) |
The Mog
![]() |
Joined Psychophile in 1998 Biography: The Mog - Psychophile's papier-maché space cat - has performed with Lucy in various bands since 1993, and it was upon Lucy's recruitment to Psychophile that he joined the line-up. With his shock of red dreadlocks, his studded bondage collar and his flashing green eyes, The Mog usually finds himself surrounded by more groupies than the band's human members. This is in spite of having been born without any hands or genitals. Previous Form: papier-maché space cat in Theta (1996) papier-maché space cat in Verity Turnip (1995) papier-maché space cat in Hidden Traits (1993) |
Mogo
![]() |
Joined Psychophile in 2004 Biography: Mogo, as you may expect, is The Mog's son. Born on Christmas Day 2003, he lives with Smogo whose blue hair complements his flashing blue eyes. Mogo is Psychophile's second papier-maché space cat and is proud to stand alongside his father as the band's newest - and smallest - member. The foul-mouthed kitten understandably gets annoyed when ignorant people mispronounce his name as 'Mo-go' rather than 'Moggo'. |
